HEARTBEAT

Heartbeat is an 80’s smash of frat comedy and gory horror, that New Zealand film has never had the chance to experience. This short film is the kiwi answer to the 80’s cult classics Revenge of the Nerds, Weird Science and Blood Diner.
Set on a Kapiti Coast beach, Heartbeat tells the tale of ‘the girl’, ‘the nerd’ and ‘the jock’, all caught in a treacherous love triangle filled with devotion, betrayal and careless black magic.
My role saw me working alongside Tim Holman on Art Direction for special effects, mentored by Joe Bleakley and Alex Funke to recreate authentic 80s era special effects, including a cloud tank.

This design driven short film is one of my most recent works, made in collaboration with Emma Nichols, Matt Fannin and Robert Edwards.
In response to our previous experiences working in film, we formed a collective director as a core vision team in order to test how a group of designers might collaboratively lead a film project.
Inspired by and adapted from a New Zealand short story, LINES explores connection, imagination and the inscesent human urge to ask, what if?
